Get ready for our GRAND OPENING performance on January 19,20, & 21st 2018! - DEAR MAMA: Letters & Music from World War II

Letters and Music from World War II

Come to our Grand Opening event and see firsthand not only a spectacular play you’ll never forget, but also the resurrection of this beautiful, old and beloved theater!

To commemorate the long-awaited Grand Opening, Mt. Vernon Theater proudly joins the Talisi Historical Preservation Society’s Friends of Tuckabatchee in presenting an original play: Dear Mama: Letters and Music from World War II written by Adrian Lee Borden. Dear Mama is based on true events of World War II. Local talent, including the writer, actors and musicians, will be featured from Tallassee and surrounding areas.

In 1943 the Tallassee Mills received the Army Navy “E” Award presented by the United States Government for excellence in the production of war materials for the nation’s forces at home and abroad. This award was again earned in 1944 and 1945. Indeed Tallassee made huge contributions toward the war effort. Old timers remember a board on Barnett Boulevard for all to view which kept a current list of its sons who were serving in the armed forces.

Tallassee’s sons fought in the Seige of Bastogne, the Normandy invasion, the North African campaigns, the Italian mainland, the Pacific Campaigns, including Iwo Jima and the Bataan Death March, and the heavy strategic bombing of Japan by the USA, culminating in the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki on August 6 and 9, 1945. Japan surrendered a month later.

Our drama can’t begin to capture all global events, the troubling times, the drama, romance, heroism and tragedies. You will be transported back in time as the actors and music portray the World War II years. You will experience a feeling of the times through letters and music, told within the context of World War II and rendered persuasively. Dear Mama: Letters and Music from World War II brings to life, through a wonderful mix of live drama and music, the era 1939 through 1945.

Dear Mama: Letters and Music from World War II is a drama that will grip you from beginning to end. Some of you lived through World War II, and can fully appreciate the unfolding of our story. Many of you did not. It is our hope that the play will stimulate your interest in history, help you recall forgotten history and combine with memories of how your parents and grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins and friends were living in those days from 1939 through 1945.

At the Grand Opening event, every guest will receive a commemorative souvenir, and the first 100 guests will receive a free gift.
